Top of the class

Christopher Simpson EngTech LCGI MIPHE RP has become the youngest recipient of the Master Plumber Certificate. The presentation took place on 18th July at Weston Super Mare Technical College Multi Skills Centre. Christopher (30), who is employed as a plumbing and heating support engineer at the college, has been in the industry for 13 years and has a supervisory and mentoring background.

He finds his job immensely satisfying and is a strong advocate of worthwhile training. “I am a vociferous supporter and endorser of Professional Development and raising of trade standards and consumer care,” Christopher commented. “This is something that I encourage in the students and work colleagues.”

The Master Plumber Certificate was presented by another recipient of the award, Colin Stainer, Area South West Co-ordinator for the IPHE. Just over 100 presentations have been made since the inception of the scheme in 2001.

Supporting students

The Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering (IPHE) has introduced the Student Study Section to the Technical Talk area of the website www.iphe.org.uk.

The new section contains pdf documents on; general plumbing knowledge, health and safety guidelines, the Water Regulations, domestic central heating controls, electrical safety, high efficiency boilers, sustainable drainage systems and thermostatic mixing valves.

Dale Courtman, Technical Director of the Institute explained, “Many colleges and students use the IPHE website to find information as part of their syllabus and associated studies. It is intended for this new section of the website to further enhance the student’s study potential, by including useful information that would in the past have been considered invaluable information for a student’s hand book. This page will be regularly updated and will eventually contain drawings, tables, equations and simple calculation examples from all areas of our industry, including hot and cold water, drainage, heating and gas.”
